Opened in 2011 with Permaculture practices as a goal, Wayando Beach Eco Lodge strives to promote sustainability, birds and wildlife, organic gardening, composting and recycling, blended with gardens and forest, beauty and relaxation, good food and friendly service. Toilets are composted sawdust and do not flush with water. A safe, clean, trash free island is our ultimate goal.

Peace, relaxation, cold beer and good company. Come and explore. We love leading hikes to the Ligongo and Wayando mountain view points. Or you can safely do a self guided walk around the nearby fishing villages.

Rooms to fit your family
Rooms are found in Bandas. Each one has a name and unique style. You pick which one fits your needs. All toilets are sawdust composting. Outside ones are available to all as well for total privacy and solitude..
Amenities
Rooms are equipped with electrical outlets to charge phones and devices, in room toilets and showers, towels and body wash, fans, reading lights and even reading materials. Maid service is daily. Linens are changed daily upon request. Composting toilets are changed twice daily and at any request. Hot water showers are in every room. A solar outdoor hot shower is also available to all guests . Wifi is free.
Rates
Rates at Wayando are charged per person. Bed and breakfast per person is 6000 ksh or 50.US. Half board is 7000 Ksh or 60 US and full board is 8000 ksh or 70 US. Exchange rates keep changing however. Includes free wifi use.
A Little History of Wayando
We are always asked about how we came to be on Rusinga Island. The story is a long one we have posted on the wall behind the bar. Linda Campbell Tilton from Washington, D.C. and Thadayo Olewa Okatch, a 1961 airliftee from Rusinga sponsored by Tom Mboya, were married in 1965 in Kansas and their son Otieno was born in 1967. Wayando Beach Eco Lodge is a tribute to their unfinished love story. Feel free to ask Linda questions.

Cancellations for future reservations will be refunded at 100% if done within 48 hours of the initial reservation, 50% refund is made until 30 days prior to arrival date. No refund will be made after 30 days prior to arrival .. We can, however hold your deposit for a future date . Same day or next day reservations which are declined by the guest will not be refunded. Holiday periods are especially sensitive as we may have declined other guests.
